UNION COUNTY, N.C. – This Monday between midnight and 8 AM, two guns belonging to the FBI were stolen in the Hunter Oaks neighborhood off Rea Road. The guns were in an agent’s car at the time.
Thieves stole the following items: one Remington 870 shotgun, one Colt M-4LE rifle and a body armor with FBI patches. Weapons and armor were stored in a locked trunk in black canvas bags.
Union County Sheriff’s Office is helping the FBI to track down the stolen armaments and potential suspects.
The agent weapons were stolen from was authorized to keep weapons in his vehicle since he is a part of a special response team that is required to respond to events at any time. This is the third time an incident like this occurred in just over a year. According to Special Agent John Strong, the FBI will review their safety procedures in light of these events.

The FBI is offering a $5,000 reward in addition to a $1,000 reward from Crime Stoppers.
