AR-15

About AR-15

The AR-15 is a lightweight, air-cooled, magazine-fed, gas-operated, shoulder-fired rifle, originally designed by Eugene Stoner for Armalite. The “AR” stands for Armalite Rifle, not “assault rifle” or “automatic rifle,” as commonly misconceived.

Known for its modularity and ease of customization, the AR-15 platform allows users to swap out parts and accessories, making it highly versatile for various applications, including hunting, sport shooting, and personal defense. The rifle’s design includes features like an adjustable stock, various sighting options, and the ability to mount additional accessories such as foregrips and tactical lights.

The AR-15 has become one of the most popular firearms in the United States, both for civilian and law enforcement use. Its popularity is partly due to its accuracy, lightweight construction, and adaptability. Despite its widespread use, the AR-15 has also been at the center of debates on gun control due to its association with high-profile mass shootings.

Understanding the AR-15 involves recognizing its history, capabilities, and the ongoing discussions around its role in society. Whether used for sport, hunting, or defense, the AR-15 remains a significant and influential firearm in the modern era.
