Bergeron’s Restaurant in Port Allen is giving a surprising discount for its customers who have guns on them. We are talking 10% off, as the local NBC affiliate KETK says in its article.
The owner, Kevin Cox, has this message for his customers: “I need you to be carrying a gun. As long as everybody has a gun, we’re all the same size.”
He claims that the idea was hatched after he noticed a lot of police officers were regulars at his restaurant, and he wanted to show his appreciation of their work. Civilian gun-owners noticed this and wanted in on the discount, so he decided to make everyone equal.
“I keep hearing so much about people banning guns,” Cox says, “Target’s banning guns and these people are banning guns. I want to take the opposite approach. How can I make my place safer?”
Average discount number given out a day is between 15 and 20. One of them, the restaurant patron Olivia Carambat, dropped by with her S&W .38: “There’s so many people who are trying to take our guns away and the government makes stricter gun laws. They forget…we’re given the right in the Constitution to keep and bear arms.”
Cox thinks that it would not be just gun-carrying customers that would deter potential criminals, but also food: “I think they would come in with a gun to rob me and just have lunch.”
