Ten arrests in Jersey City, Guns and Drugs Seized

Guns and drugs were seized during ten arrests when Jersey City police conducted a warrant sweep with the help of a number of law enforcement agencies on Tuesday.

While executing four open warrants for Kyle Bell, 25, of Bayview Avenue, police seized a 9mm handgun hidden on a roof, and a magazine loaded with nine live rounds in Bell’s dresser drawer.

Police discovered Bell was using a mobile app to listen to police radio communications, which is a crime. Bell was additionally charged with firearms offenses regarding the gun as well as interception of emergency communications.

Police found Rashawn McFadden, 26, of Virginia Avenue in Jersey City, and John Worsely, 26, of Orange, hiding in a bedroom and pretending to be asleep.

Both of them were charged with weapons offenses related to the gun and numerous narcotics offenses, including possession and intent to distribute

A Bersa .380 caliber gun, nine live .380 rounds, 26 bags of suspected marijuana, two bags of suspected heroin, 11 grams of suspected cocaine and drug paraphernalia were seized during a search.

Police found 45 bags of suspected cocaine in Sharif Scott’s jacket pocket at his 16th Street home. Scott was charged with numerous narcotics offenses, including drug possession and possession with intent to distribute.

While executing a warrant for the arrest of Jamie Franklin, 19, of Dwight Street, on bail-jumping charges, police saw him throw 34 vials of suspected cocaine out his bedroom window. He was charged with tampering with evidence and drug counts that included possession and possession with intent to distribute.

Also arrested on bail-jumping charges were Lenward Buie, 19, of Custer Avenue; Micah Reid, 22, of 50 Rutgers Avenue; Jermaine Mitchell, 33, of Stegman Street and Earl Gaffney, 33, of Van Horne Street, Morrill said, adding that Kourtney Evans, 23, of Woodlawn Avenue, was arrested on a warrant for contempt of court.
