Guns for Trained Teachers in Southern Indiana School District

West Clark Community Schools’ teachers in Sellersburg, Ind. tell Wave 3 News in Louisville that they need to be as proactive as possible when it comes to defending their students.

West Clark School Board Secretary Doug Coffman proposed to arm some teachers. He said he’s not suggesting teachers have concealed carry.

“What can we do to better protect our students?” Coffman asked.

The idea is that a teacher, who’s had police or military training, could have guns, possibly in a safe. One or more teachers could provide extra support to resource officers. Each campus in West Clark has one police trained resource officer.
